How to spot a few common health problems in French Bulldogs

French Bulldogs are an immensely popular type of dog, and they are wonderful companions. Though, as with any breed, there are some health concerns that you should be aware of. By being mindful of potential issues, you can swiftly identify any problems and make sure your Frenchie gets the help it needs.
First off is breathing issues. Frenchies have very short muzzles which can lead to physical difficulties breathing. Excessive panting, wheezing, or coughing are signs your Frenchie may be suffering from this common malady of the breed. Call your vet to get them checked out If you notice any of these symptoms.
Another common issue in French Bulldogs is skin problems. These dogs have sensitive skin, and they can develop rashes or other skin irritations. If you notice any redness, bumps, or other changes in your pup’s skin, it’s important to get them checked out by a vet.
Eye problems are also a frequent malady of French Bulldogs. Frenchies are prone to tear duct and eyelid abnormalities, as well as eye infections. If you notice any tearing, redness, or discharge from your pup’s eyes, contact your vet as soon as possible.
French Bulldogs often develop joint issues, such as hip dysplasia and luxating patellas. If your pup is limping, having trouble getting up, or not wanting to move, it’s important to have them checked out by your vet right away.
Lastly, French Bulldogs can be prone to obesity. If your pup is gaining weight quickly, they may be at risk for obesity-related health problems. Make sure to feed them a balanced diet, give them plenty of exercise, and monitor their weight to keep them healthy. As always, consult with your veterinarian about any diet changes since Frenchies can be prone to allergies.
By knowing what to look for, you can spot most potential health issues early on. If you notice symptoms or unusual changes in behavior of any kind, contact your vet to schedule an exam. With proper care, you can give your pup a happy, healthy life.
